2025 ski season up and running

Well Yongpyong surprised me yesterday with a sudden announcement on their homepage that they’d be opening today (Nov 21st)! I’ve been keeping an eye out as always and knew they had the snow makers turned on last week, but didn’t expect them to open this quickly. That said, it’s only the one slope (Pink) open so probably not worth much effort, although the lift tickets this weekend are only 10000 won.

Update: Phoenix Park have also managed to open quickly, with Dodo and Hawk slopes opening from Nov 21st.

High1 have announced Nov 28th for their opening day.

Welli Hilli: Dec 5th

Other resorts TBC

Update: with the subzero temps this week and plenty of snow even in Seoul, most of the ski resorts have opened today (Dec 5th).

Oak Valley and Jisan Forest have announced Dec 12th, and Konjiam Dec 10th. Further south it’s December 7th for Muju, but Eden Valley down near Busan has filed for bankruptcy – their website still has listings for season passes, lockers etc, but not sure if they’ll be opening this season or not.

where have you seen the Welli Hilli Open date? We are booked to be there from the 8th and I have anxiously been checking for official word of open but not seen anything online yet

Hi Dan, it’s on their website here, the relevant text is:

      25/26 겨울시즌 오픈 : 2025.12.05(금) = 25/26 winter season open: 2025.12.05 (Fri)

You’re good for the 8th, enjoy!

Do you know how many slopes are open at High 1?

Hi Chris, I am going to Phoenix ski resort with my kids on the 23rd. Should I take ski pass in advance according to you? Or I can purchase ski pass and rent equipment when I arrive?

    • Simon Norton says:

Hi Julia, both are fine. Did you already arrange transportation? If not, a package deal is usually best

Hi, can I check, which would you recommend (High1 or Phoenix) for snow quality (not so hard when fall) and the slopes for beginner and intermediate for mid December? I’ve been to Alepnsia and Yongpyeong, both are good and I fell, not pain (during mid December). Thanks!

    • Simon Norton says:

hi Rachel, sorry for the super slow reply but anyway I guess you’re asking for December 2026!

High1, Phoenix, Alpensia and Yongpyeong are all in the same region and have similar altitudes, so snow conditions are generally similar. Generally speaking, High1 is the best chance of good snow (as it is a bit higher), but they can all be good or bad depending on the weather that week and that day.
